The house I don’t like

What do you do when you realise that the house you bought and lived in for five years is not what you really want? You don’t remember the reasons for buying that house in the first place but you now think that the house:
(1) is too far from your place of work;
(2) is located in a neighbourhood that you don’t quite like, though not hate;
(3) is surrounded by bad traffic, hence you don’t go out much;
(4) is too big and requires too much work.

Selling and moving appears to be the solution, however:
(a) moving is a very tedious affair;
(b) much as the reasons for moving appear obvious, having lived there for so long, you have come to love the house for other reasons;
(c) while living in a new place and environment can be exciting, it also brings anxiety and fear - will it be better? will it be worse? what sort of neighbours would I have? as some say, better the devil you know… .

So, do you sell the house and move out? Or do you stay and bear with it?

  1. You could always renovate… and have a spacious modern and simple decor that wud make your arty farty friends go waahhh and wanna come over for coffee every day!

    Why go out and when you can bring your friends over? :)

  2. because Jikon doesnt like us! :)
    Move out! Get a city do, or come to Ampang, very peaceful and its near ur place of werk!

    plus we can see each other more often WINK WINK

  3. Renovation is good idea but $$$. How abt repaint the house, choose some happy color like Yellow and Orange. Sure cheer up. ;> Btw, don’t forget to put some greens, flowers and paintings decor, make it more lively. If still don’t work- MOVE OUT lor. :(

    maybe this one will work.

  7. Hmm… I have been thinking about moving, as well. House Loan interest rates are at an all-time low and the property market seems to favour buyers.

    The prospect of moving is always exciting. If you’r gonna do it, perhaps you ought to go all the way. Sell the house and everything in it. I’m seriously considering this, but then again it’s not like I have anything tasteful to keep! :)
    Methinks there’s a property fair coming up in October in Midvalley. All the signs that indicate you should move!! Anyone’s got any info on the property fair??

  8. I hate my place right now because of the people living in my neighborhood. They are nice and all but there are some bad apples around… You know from the graffiti on the lift and all. But cannot complain lah. You get what you pay…

  9. hi,
    here is an idea..
    start looking and find a place u want to stay,and when u find it , then move.
    if u cant find any place better than where u are, u know at least to appreciate what u got, if u do, no more doubts whether to move or not.

  10. To Go Or Not To Go

    Funny isn’t it when your dad called just in to tell you that he just won another quality award at his department, and you are just all demotivated at your workplace. That it’s no longer fun working in a place

  11. (after reading haxa’s blog)

    *piak* notti jikon. cheh! tot really moving house. :p

  12. *grin*

    but it’s not about work either!

  13. Maaan, that was cryptic. Hahahaha!

    Still, it sounds like moving house is inevitable. Else you’d be stuck in an uncomfortable comfort zone.

    It’s time you found yourself a home. :D

    i was bored on nite. :p

  15. Move already! For me, location is king. It’s no good living in a designer loft if it’s in the middle of a neighborhood I hate. I love the location of my current apt - smack in the middle of the Upper West Side. The location absolutely trumps the low floor. #2 is light. #3 is space.
