Chinese New Year?

CNY.jpgI am such a heretic. Everyone I know is taking the day off work tomorrow. They are going back to their hometowns, or cleaning their homes, or cooking the great reunion dinner.

Me? What am I going to do? I going to sit in some of the best seats of one of the better cinemas in KL to watch the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King! No, I haven’t watched it yet. I figured with the great exodus from Kuala Lumpur and the preoccupation with cultural rites, I’ll just about have the whole cinema to myself. No mobile phones ringing. No annoying running commentaries behind me. And no kids screaming in the room.

And the reunion dinner? What reunion dinner?! I’ll go home early, roast chicken and vegetables and open a can of soup! And don’t even mention hometown. I can’t bear the thought of driving in the madness that will be the North-South Highway. In any case, KL is my hometown!

Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year to one and all!

p/s if the pictograph above doesn’t actually say “Gong Xi Fa Cai” - keep it to youself! God only knows what it says…!

  1. heretic! :p
seriously though, i didn’t give much thought to the cny preparations and celebrations last time but i found that it does wonders for depression (well, not wonders, but yeah it does help) and it builds up the all important “guan xi” that will get your ass out of trouble if you get it on trouble due to oversight or otherwise one day. ;)

  2. Haha…Have a Happy New Year and have good time at the cinema.

I found that I missed CNY more these days, more than I thought I would. Well, after years of not celebrating CNY at home with familiy and friends, feeling a bit homesick during this time of the year :)

  3. Happy New Year to you, Jikon.

If you don’t feel like celebrating, I think I understand. Rituals are less meaningful these days especially since I’ve grown much older…Heck, on the first day of Raya last year, my family and I were on a road trip to Hat Yai to do some shopping! Of all places, Hat Yai, hihi! It was definitely a good break from doing the usual open house thingie, though!

  4. i think the chinese characters have something to do with er… marriage? LoL!

  5. yep, happy new year and not happy chinese new year as it is obvious already it is a CHINESE new year. (am going to blog on this matter!)

  6. gong xi fa chai!

i once spent CNY in KL. my cousin and i went to the city center and had coffee at coffee bean at kl plaza.

saw this chinese couple. guy in tight black t-shirts and tight jeans but no muscle. gal in white spaghetti straps and hot pink shots. just walking up and down with her parading her love bites all over her leg.

guess some ppl want to kill time during CNY in kl.

  7. happy chinese new year jikon!

  8. Grace - don’t tell me! don’t tell me! I don’t want to know.

Wena - I don’t think those were love bites… they were probably mosquito bites. She must have forgotten to wear tights! Wonderful invention these…! But Coffee Bean in KL Plaza - that’s an idea. Even better idea - Dome in Lot10. Or buffet at Shangri-La!

Lucia - white men friends in faraway places very stoopid want. Must qualify everything!

  9. jikon : believe me, if those were mosquitoe bites, must have a damn big mosquitoe. it was pretty obvious with the bruises being of 50 cent coin size. haha!

not much people watching, if that’s what you’re hoping for at coffee bean. not many ppl were out. i went there becoz at that time, my cousin was living in the city.

  10. Gong Xi Fa Cai

On this very eve of Chinese New Year, I would like to extend my Gong Xi Fa Cai greeting to all my Chinese friends, acquaintances, and readers. Day like this reminds me of my music teacher at primary school, Ms.
