i will not bait…

A life spent being absolutely nothing is a life wasted. But then again there is no nominal value for acheivement is there?

It seems like such a paltry existence if you have nothing to believe in, if you never acheive greatness. And the trick is not acheiving the greatness others long for, but the greatness you want and desire in yourself.

In some ways, I’ve started down my path, but it lies in the back of my mind that it is perfectly possibly I will never be a D.H Lawrence, Hemingway or a Tolstoy. So what then? … Do I just float like driftwood into the abyss of Underacheivement and Broken Dreams?

Do I then, quietly accept my “FATE?” Will I ever be happy enough to know I have accomplished Enough? What is enough really? Producing offspring, having a partner to grow old with, grandchildren?

I’m asking questions I cannot find the answers to.

… no i wouldn’t!

moving to central london

A fabulously witty, lovable, kind, good natured, and steadfast friend of mine will be moving to his new home here tomorrow (see where the red arrow points).

** I’m so envious **

It’s right round the corner from a small Tesco Metro (it’s a little bit further away to the nearest Sainsbury’s), a very short walk away from the world’s most fabulous stationery shop (Paperchase), a slightly longer walk to gay-couples central on weekends (Habitat and Heal’s) but more importantly it is right in the backyard of Oxford Street and Soho! Could you live any more central in London?!?!!!!

yo! bloggers! read this!

Two reads that got me off this morning:

(1) This article published in the New York Times. You need to register (free) to access the full text, but in case you’re lazy, I’m publishing it in the extended section (i.e. below) of this post, but I shouldn’t be doing this so it’ll be taken off in a day or so.

(2) The more interesting observation is this: pick up a copy of today’s Star or the New Straits Times. And then pick up a copy of Utusan Malaysia. Read, or scan, and compare. The English press is fawning over, effusive and completely OTT with the Prime Minister’s state visit to China, which begins today, while for the Malay press it’s almost a non-event. If ever you needed another concrete example of just how Malaysia is polarised and schizophrenic, this is it!

as if proving a point

As if in response to my earlier post, the New Straits Times published this article today reporting how students are (hopefully) being discouraged from getting into a life of crime through caning/whipping demonstrations at school. The Star also published a similar article.
