a brand new scarf!

My first knitted scarf

This is not a very good picture but this is my second knit-project - a lovely scarf in olive beige and cream in the style of Country Road, British India or Banana Republic. And it’s for me!!! It took me about a week to knit it at a very slow pace.

Incidentally, and I just have to say this because I’m very, very frustrated at the moment: if nothing else, i.e. if I eventually leave Australia in March 2006 without finishing the Ph.D due to absence of funding (read this for background), AUD50,000 of Australian tax payers’ money has bought me the knowledge, and skill, of knitting! How useful is that?

  6. well wisher: thanks for that. as i recall, you had pointed me in the direction of this foundation in the past as well. unfortunately, it wouldn’t work for me due to the imperfect alignment in the timing of the academic years. by the time i am able to secure funding from this foundation, assuming that i am successful, i would have already left Australia due to non-payhment of fees etc. thanks anyway.

  7. can u teach me how to knit?

  8. Oh dear. There was another foundation that could’ve helped, you know. :-)
Well, believe it or not, I was better at knitting than I was at sewing.

  9. The scarf is beautiful, especially the part where you change colours! :)
How about applying for a part-time teaching post? That could earn you some income. What about research grants and other alternatives? Sounds like such a waste to get there only to come back after a year…

  10. ah Zsarina… yes, that foundation could have helped but alas not enought to make a material difference to the final outcome…
