summer is over
Summer is well and truly over in Canberra.
The temperature fell to minus-1C three nights ago. The leaves are turning brown. My summer tan is fading. And daylight savings ended over the weekend.
Although the temperature rises to the low-20s in the day, there is nevertheless a distinct nip in the air, particularly with the windchill factor. However, as this is Australia, the sun is (almost) always shining and we can still sit outside sipping a coffee. But I’ve put away my thongs (as in footwear) and brought out my sweaters. I even felt the need to wear a beanie a few nights ago.
As a student, autumn has always signalled the time to hunker down and study. As the days become shorter and the weather becomes colder, the idea of locking myself up at home and sitting down with lots of reading material become more appealing.
So summer is over and so has the intellectual holiday that I’ve taken (liberally, I might add) over the last six weeks. Its time to hunker own and work!
